Is Affiliate Marketing Really For You?

Who can become an Affiliate?

Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money online, but it’s not for everyone. Is it really for you?

It takes skill, experience, and dedication to succeed as an affiliate marketer. While anyone can become an affiliate marketer, not everyone will have the same level of success.

To be successful in affiliate marketing, you need to understand the basics of how it works and develop strategies that will help you reach your goals.

With the right knowledge and tools, you can become a successful affiliate marketer and make money from your online activities.

How does it work?

It is quite simple. All you need to do is connect a buyer with a seller's product.

How do you do that?

  • You can blog about a product and recommend it to your followers with links on your website.
  • You can review a product or do a tutorial and recommend it or not to your audience.
  • You can do PPC ads. That is another way to do it.
  • Banner ads on your website are another way to promote. Social media can also be a great way to do a promotion with organic or paid ads.
  • A resource page on your website to recommend tools that you are using to build your online business.

What do you need to start?

Lap Top Lifestyle

Anyone who wants to do affiliate marketing can do this. You only need a computer with an internet connection to start.

And a few other things.

Three parties are involved in affiliate marketing.

1.   The seller

2.   You

3.   The buyer

The seller is the person selling the product. You are promoting the product from that person.

You are the one who is going to do the promotion to sell the product.

The buyer is the person who will click a link to buy the product, and if this link is yours, you will receive a commission.

In 2009, renowned affiliate marketer Pat Flynn categorized affiliate marketing into three types — unattached, related and involved.

Unattached

An unattached affiliate is someone that promotes a product without even trying it. Their goal is simply to try to sell the product by doing promotions on Google, Bing ads, Facebook, or any other way.

Their purpose is only to try to have someone click on their link to get a commission.

Related

A related affiliate is someone promoting a particular product or service that they have not necessarily tried. Still, they may have a big audience through YouTube, Facebook, TikTok or any other platform, and they promote them to their audience.

Involved affiliates

An affiliate that is involved is someone that tries the product before promoting it. By doing that, they are in a much better position to explain the advantage or disadvantages of the service or product in question.

Some affiliates take this business very seriously, and before promoting anything, they must try it. It is definitely more work, but it will benefit them in the long run.

I would personally prefer to buy a product online from someone who has tried the product and commented if it's good or not instead of someone just promoting it without knowing if it's good.

Again someone you trust

It is always nice to know if the product is as good as the seller wants you to think perfect. Again I know you can't trust everybody reviewing products online, but if you do your research the right way, the chances that you buy a good product are better.

If you like to learn about different products and write about them, affiliate marketing is a good fit for you to earn money. The nice thing is that you do not have to create the product as an affiliate.

Your job is to create content on a chosen platform of your choice to have people click on your link for them to buy the service or product you are promoting, and once they buy through your link, you get a cut from the sale.

Similar to if you walk into a store and you deal with a salesperson.

Buy from them, and they get a commission, but you do not have to spend hours in the store waiting for clients; you do this business whenever you want, wherever you want, as long as you have your computer and internet connection.

Is it a good time to start as an affiliate in 2023?

I would say yes, it is everywhere. You probably already bought through a link online and did not notice it was from an affiliate doing a promotion.

Are you the right person for affiliate marketing?

If you are an entrepreneur who likes to work for yourself, has a website and wants to blog about a different product you like or not, then being an affiliate could be good for you, and you can earn passive income.

Now, remember the 3 types of affiliates I mention earlier?

I still think that involved affiliate is the best way to do it because you have tried the product, you can talk about the product or service in a much better way, you can explain the pros and cons in a much better way, and people like to deal with someone they can trust.

Now picture this try to sell a product you have yet to try. Will you feel as confident explaining it as if you have tried it?

People will see through you and won't have confidence in you if you are just trying to sell them stuff that you don't care about and have never tried, but the commission is good, so why not sell it?

This is not the type of business I recommend.

Do not try just to sell.

Make sure to help and educate people about what you want to offer them. Do not just think about the money; think more about helping others instead. It will benefit you much more.

Keep in mind if your audience trusts you, it will be a win-win situation.

Advantages:

Easy to start, no need to invest a ton of money, and it is easy to find a product to promote.

You are only promoting someone else product. It is not your product. You have not created it. You are not responsible for customer service.

You are not tied up in a location like in a store 40 hrs a week to sell to whoever walks in the store.

You have more freedom.

Disadvantage:

You have no control over the product. The owner can cancel the program anytime.

If you have a popular product, you will compete with others.

Make sure you read the fine print before you start promoting product deal with reputable companies.

Can you earn money doing affiliate marketing?

questioning

That is the question.

Some affiliates make good money, and some make really good money. Most don’t make any money at all.

Like any other business, it will depend on how much time and work you will be willing to put behind the bar like any other business.

What you will promote is going to make a difference in your revenue.

This is a long-term business. You will not make money overnight. This is not a get-rich-quick business.

What will you promote, physical products or digital products? Some will pay more than others.

It will take time before you start making money.

Here is an example:

Just imagine you are buying a revenue property now.

You need the capital to make the deal work, and sometimes you will need a lot.

Now once the deal is done, when do you think this property will be profitable?

Sometimes many years after but in real estate, it normally works this way unless you are doing flips. That is a different story.

But still, if you want to buy that property, you will need to invest money.

Now when you decide to become an affiliate, your main job is to connect a buyer with the seller's product.

So the investment is your time, and yes, you will invest money to use different tools for you to succeed with this business, but they are basic prices, nothing extravagant, and never like buying a revenue property.

You need to build your audience and build trust work on your blog before you start making some money, but you did not have to invest a large amount of money when starting this business.

But you will put time into it.

time

That is the beauty of affiliate marketing, plus you can do this from wherever you want. Think of all the freedom you will have.

If you are starting this business, don’t forget that the more helpful you are better it will be for you in the future.

Try to make sure to give as much information as you can to help your audience when reviewing a service or product to make sure they will be making the best decision for them and not necessarily for you.

Mistakes newbies make when starting as an affiliate.

Trying to sell instead of helping

When searching on the internet for information, you start reading, and all you see on the website are ads, links, click here, click there etc. etc. this is not the best way to keep people reading. They will see right away that you just want to sell, and they will just drive away.

Posting bad content on their blog.

Yes, you will sometimes see, when doing research about a product, that it looks like you are missing info about the product. They simply did not review the product enough or tried to inform you as much as possible for you to make a decision that they were already trying to sell you something.

Not knowing about the product enough, they are selling.

New affiliates often make the mistake of not knowing enough about the product they are promoting. This leads to them not being able to provide their audience with accurate information, which can lead to a loss of trust and credibility. Without trust, it's impossible for an affiliate to build a successful business.

Not building a list from the start.

Yes, that is a mistake I also made at the beginning, and many newbies do that. You should always try to build your list right from the beginning. It’s a little more work, but it’s worth it.

Using only organic traffic, not using paid ads

You should use paid ads to generate more traffic to your website again; this is very good for building your list. I am sure you've heard that before the money is in the list. Both tactics are good.

Having too much competition in their niche

When beginning in affiliate marketing, we tend to go for the big box right away.

Ex: The making money online niche competition is very strong in this business, and you will have some difficulties ranking in google because of that, so the better way is to find a more specific niche.

Ex: fishing is a very large niche fishing salmon or pikes or trout or sea fishing. I am sure you get the point.

Compared to a niche like Fishing Bass Technik, they can provide valuable content for readers who are interested in learning more about this particular subject.

Get distracted by a shiny object.
get rich quick

Now, this is a good one. We all make the same mistakes each time we see an opportunity that sounds better or easier. We jump right into it instead of concentrating on our already existing business.

Not making sure their article is readable.

When writing an article, just make sure to have space every 2 or 3 lines. It will be easier to read the article instead of just one big paragraph.

Also, adding some pictures to your blog will make a big difference.

Not using internal or external links.

If you have many articles, it's always good to add some internal links to another article you have written if they are related. This is good for your readers, plus good for ranking. The same is good for external links.

Sometimes you need to back up your article so you can refer to another site that has also mentioned some points about the article you are writing.

To many niches at once

Having too many niches makes it will more difficult for you to get seen as a pro. It's as if somehow your business is diluted.

So, try to become really good at one or two specific niches before adding too many to your business over time should be fine.

Be persistent and treat this like a real business.

What tactic will you use to promote your affiliate links?

  1. Your Blog
  2. Youtube video
  3. Bonus
  4. Giveaway
  5. Email marketing social media
  6. Reviews and many more...

Affiliate marketing is a great way for businesses to increase their reach and sales. However, trust and authenticity are the key elements in successful affiliate marketing.

Without trust and authenticity, it is impossible to build relationships with customers and establish credibility in the market.

Therefore, it is important for businesses to ensure that they are using trustworthy affiliates who can provide honest reviews of their products or services.

Let me be crystal clear here. When I say review a product, it means reviewing the product, but you have to be careful out there because you will see many marketers that will review a product only to try to sell you something else, so beware.

In addition, businesses should also ensure that their affiliates have a good understanding of their brand values so that they can accurately represent the company’s message.

Different methods to get paid with affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing has become increasingly popular over the years as more businesses realize its potential and effectiveness in driving sales and increasing brand awareness.

With so many different programs available, it's important for affiliates to understand how each one works so they can choose one that best fits their needs and goals.

Here are different ways to get paid

You get paid per sale.

You deal with someone with a product to sell, you get an affiliate link from them which you get to promote, and each time someone buys through this link, you get paid a percentage of the sale.

All you have to do is find a product that resonates with your audience and promote it.

You get paid per click.

Another way to get paid is to get a potential client to take a certain action, like subscribing to a newsletter. As an example, website affiliates often run campaigns which they have to pay to get leads to take action to sign up to a website, and when they do, then you get paid.

You get paid per installation.

This model is when you get a lead to install an app. When they do install the app, you get paid so much.

As you can see, there are many ways you can become an affiliate just do your research and once you have found the business mode go for it!

Conclusion

If you are looking to start your career in affiliate marketing, it is important to do your research first. You need to understand what kind of affiliate program you want to participate in and find out what products or services would be most suitable for you.

It is also important to research the competition in the market so that you can make sure that your affiliate program stands out from the rest. Doing your research will help ensure that you get the best possible results from your affiliate program.
