In simple terms, affiliate marketing is a performance-based arrangement where individuals or businesses, called affiliates, promote products or services of another company in exchange for a commission on sales generated through their efforts.

The concept revolves around the idea of revenue sharing. Affiliates earn a commission for every successful sale or lead they generate through their unique affiliate links. The problem with affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing can be a great way to make money online by promoting other people’s products. However, many people think they can make a fortune immediately with affiliate marketing, which is not the case.

Having worked in this field for many years, I know that affiliate marketing requires dedication and hard work to succeed.

Yes, some people make good money, but one thing to remember is that they have been working on their business for quite some time, or they already have lots of followers.

Affiliate marketing is an essential part of the online ecosystem. You can earn commissions and revenue from referring customers to products, services, and websites. By utilizing affiliate links on your website or blog, you can leverage your readership and generate income for yourself.

For example, if you have an affiliate link on your blog that sends people to purchase a product that you are promoting a product whose cost is, let’s say, $100.00, and the seller gives you 10% of this amount each time you make a sale, you will receive 10$ dollars for each sale.

Now many times, people tend to search for a product that will pay a much higher commission. Still, if you are starting in affiliate marketing, it’s essential to start with products that have lower commissions but still offer good value.

The reason is that you will have less competition. This way, you can gradually build up your reputation and gain customer trust before attempting more complicated affiliate marketing strategies.

How do you get paid?

When you become an affiliate for x company, they will assign you a link, and once people click on your link and buy the product from that link, you will receive a commission.

When someone clicks on your link a cookie is generate on the potential client computers and that is how the company recognize that the lead was generate from you with your link if that person buys.

Remember that the cookie created when someone clicks on your link does not last forever.

Sometimes it could be for 30 days or more or even less, like 24 hrs, but once the person buys through your link, you will receive a commission within the duration of the cookie created once the buyer clicks on your link.

The reason I am mentioning this is to imagine that the potential client does not buy right away and decides to buy in 30 days, and the cookie created when the client visited your page was good for only 15 days, then you will not receive any commission. Unless the agreement with the seller is different.

Let’s review Amazon cookies as an example.

Amazon affiliate cookies last for 24 hrs after someone has clicked on your link, which means the cookie will stay on their browser for 24 hrs, so if the potential client buys in that period, then you will receive the commission.

Let’s say someone on your website reads your article, and in the article, you refer to Amazon. If the client does not use your link to buy the product on Amazon, you will not receive any commission. They need to use your link.

So, each time an affiliate shares one of their link, the lead that clicks on your link will have a cookie stored on their device.

Cookie is information about who has referred the client to their website, so if they buy the cookie will inform the seller that this purchase was made because you have shared your link, and that’s the way you get paid.

Also, one thing to keep in mind with Amazon.

Duration of cookies let’s say a lead has clicked on your link but does not buy immediately. There are chances that you will still get a commission if they buy within the duration of that cookie.

That is why you must encourage the client to buy the product within 24 hrs. The cookie will stay on their computer even if the user closes the browser window. However, if they  click on another associate affiliate link, the cookie will be replaced.

Another thing with Amazon

If the client puts an item in their shopping cart but does not buy immediately

Amazon can extend the cookie’s duration for another 89 days only if the client has put the item in their shopping cart. So if they buy the product that are in their cart you will receive a commission that product within that 89 days.

Another good thing is that if a buyer adds more items to their shopping cart within the 24 hrs period, you will get a commission on these items when they check out, but if it passes the 24 hrs you will only get paid for the item they purchase from your link.

Good content

Create good content on your blog to generate traffic.

Content marketing helps you create awareness and attract potential customers.

Good Content helps you engage your audience and build credibility

Do not become an affiliate for a product only because you will make good money from it. Make sure you choose something you are passionate about and interested in because when you start writing a blog about the product if you do not like it, you will get bored very fast and get discouraged.

Always do your research before becoming an affiliate for any product. It is important to understand how the affiliate program works, what kind of commission structure they offer, and if there are any restrictions or limitations associated with the program.

Only when you feel comfortable with the terms and conditions of the program should you become an affiliate for that product?
